The Electric Lady Big Band is a dynamic ensemble inspired by the legendary Jimi Hendrix. Formed in 2018 to mark the 50th anniversary of Hendrix’s "Electric Ladyland," the project was inspired by Hendrix’s dream of writing and conducting for a big band—a vision left unrealized due to his untimely passing.
Commissioned by the Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival, guitarist and Hendrix devotee Denny Ilett brought together a 16-piece orchestra of top UK jazz musicians to reimagine Hendrix’s iconic album. The result was a celebrated recording released in 2018, blending rock, blues, jazz, funk, soul, and psychedelia in bold new arrangements.
The band has since performed to sold-out audiences at major festivals and venues, including Ronnie Scott’s, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, and Leeds Jazz Festival. Their 2022 release, "Up From The Skies," further cemented their reputation for innovation and reverence.
Expanding the boundaries of psychedelic music for large ensembles, the Electric Lady Big Band honors Hendrix’s legacy with passion and creativity, bringing his visionary sound to new generations.
