“Played with passion and precision.”

— Jimi Hendrix
The Electric Lady Big Band isn't a tribute act; it is a sonic exploration. Led by the visionary arrangements of Denny Ilett, this 16-piece powerhouse takes the sprawling, feedback-drenched genius of Jimi Hendrix and translates it into the language of a modern jazz orchestra.
Imagine the iconic riffs of "Voodoo Chile" reinforced by a wall of brass, or "Little Wing" reimagined with lush, orchestral textures. By finding the "unexpected connection" between the grit of 60s rock and the harmonic complexity of jazz, Denny has created a live experience that feels both historically reverent and wildly contemporary.
“Played with passion and precision.”
“A fantastic bursting sound that enveloped the audience.”
“More than just a Jimi Hendrix ‘experience’.”
“A unique and heartfelt testimony to the music and legacy of Jimi Hendrix.”
“A 16-piece band, comprised of leading jazz improvisers.”
The timing is especially strong for 2027, marking 60 years since Hendrix’s breakthrough year, including the release of Are You Experienced and his landmark Monterey Pop Festival performance.
With new tracks being released around the forthcoming August Ronnie Scott’s shows and a new album planned for next year, Electric Lady Big Band offers festivals a project with both a proven live history and a fresh release story.
The show can be presented as the full 16-piece Electric Lady Big Band, or as an international festival version with Denny Ilett travelling alongside a core ensemble of leading British jazz musicians and the larger orchestra expanded with selected local players where appropriate.
The Electric Lady Big Band delivers a live experience that is unlike anything else on the UK jazz scene. The band interprets Hendrix's Electric Ladyland album in full, plus tracks from across his catalogue.
